FAQQ1: What kind of bike is required?
A: A mountain bike with hand brakes is required, The goal for this course is to produce riders with the skills to master our bike trail network. We teach skills such as descending hills and rough terrain. Skills like this require a Mountain Bike with hand brakes to be safe. Q: Can a mountain bike with pedal and hand brakes be used? A: While the hand brakes will work for most skills, the pedal brakes will make some key skills difficult, and cannot be modulated (used gradually) for descending. As long as a bike has front and back hand brakes, it will be good to start, but, as time and skills advance, you may want to consider a bike with only hand brakes. Q: My child's bike was bought at a department store, is it good enough? A: Absolutely, as long as it is in good working order, it does not matter the brand or where the bike was bought. One of the key aspects we teach is respect for our fellow students, what we ride does not matter. We all ride, and that does. Q: Does my childs bike require suspension/shocks? A: No, suspension is not required, these types of bikes can be quite expensive and are only required to fit the riders preference. |
